SURGIFOAM® Absorbable Gelatin Sponge is a sterile, water-insoluble, malleable sponge made from porcine gelatin, designed to control capillary, venous, and arteriolar bleeding during surgical procedures (except ophthalmic) when conventional methods are ineffective. It can be used dry or saturated with sterile saline, and may be combined with thrombin to enhance hemostasis. The sponge is absorbed by the body in 4-6 weeks and has a shelf life of 4 years when stored at controlled room temperature.
