IRM is a polymer-reinforced zinc oxide-eugenol (ZOE) restorative material designed for intermediate restorations intended to remain in place for up to one year. The eugenol component provides sedative qualities on hypersensitive tooth pulp and acts as a thermal insulator. It can also be used as a base under non-resin cements and restorative materials such as amalgams, inlays, and onlays, offering strength approaching zinc phosphate cement, excellent abrasion resistance, good sealing properties, and low solubility.
